Description : Scandent shrubs, thorns, recurved. Leaves 9-12 x 4-7 cm, ovate-orbicular, apex acute, base unequally cordate, fulvous-tomentose beneath, coriaceous, crenulate; petiole to 1 cm long. Flowers 6-20 together; subsessile, 5 mm across; sepals densely tomentose outside; disk flat, glabrous; ovary densely tomentose, 2-celled; styles 2, curved. Drupe to 1.3 cm, globose, white, glabrous. Leaves, 5-12.5x4-6 cm, are broadly elliptic, short-tippes, denticulate, base oblique, wrinkled, petiole 0.8-1.5 cm long, densely velvet-hairy. Inflorescence of pedunculate cymes, densely pubescent, peduncle c.5 mm long. Pedicel, to 4 mm long. Calyx puberulous inside 1.5-2 mm long, with ovate acute lobes. Petals absent. Disc 5-lobed, styles 2, connate below the middle. Fruit c. 5-8 mm in diameter, globose or pyriform, white when ripe. Flowering: December-January.

Medicinal Use / Activity : A paste made from the bark is applied as a poultice on swollen gums and to toothaches. The flowers, combined with an equal quantity of the petioles of betel leaves and half as much lime is used to make a pill that is used in the treatment of menorrhagia.
